Scene Study
At The Actors Chapel, our Scene Study classes are the core of our training; a dynamic space where actors develop truthful, compelling work through rehearsal, exploration, and in-depth coaching.
How It Works
No matter their experience, each actor works with a script and scene tailored to their level, progressing through several focused stages of work:
Improv Exploration
We begin with an improvised version of the scene to help the actor connect to the, story, world of the character and the scene circumstances.
Objective, Tactics & Actions
Actors learn how to make playable choices based on what they need in the scene, who they’re trying to get it from, and how to pursue it through mental tactics and physical actions.
Character & Emotional Truth
Actors identify what is at stake for the character, exploring inner life, emotional connection, and personal relevancy. We work on relating to what the character is fighting for and why.
Stage and On-Camera Work
Each scene is worked both on stage and on camera on different class nights — allowing actors to use the stage to gain a true sense of where they are, what they’re doing, and the physical business of playing in the space, as well as work on camera for film and television.
Class Levels
Our Scene Study training supports actors at three stages of development, allowing each actor to work at the level best suited to their current experience:
- Orientation – For those new to acting or seeking foundational skills
- Intermediate – Designed for actors looking to strengthen technique and confidence
- Advanced – For experienced actors refining their craft for professional performance.
Each actor is guided according to where they are in their process, ensuring the work remains challenging, appropriate, and growth-driven.
